while watching the news late last night, the new viral youtube video of four soldiers urinating on dead taliban fighters, has hit full on with reactions being reported on the news stations......click. time to go to sleep with the image in my head. this morning more coverage of the now made public afganistan urination, with the penis`s blurred out. were they trying to protect their pride? american citizens were being asked their thoughts about the video. most seemed quite shocked and apalled. not one person said, "that`s war". in all wars there are acts of atrocity or what people that are not fighting in a war call atrocities. marines, navy seals, green beret, these guys are killing machines, trained to do all the things the rest of us are afraid to do. these soldiers saw these dead men as the enemy that they are fighting to protect us. proably 75% of soldiers believe in god and somehow they have to justify killing (thou shall not kill) for the sake of their country. their world must feel so out of control................i`ve peed on drunk friends before, horrible? maybe. funny? fuck yeah. i`ve gone off track and i`m not trying to making light of a sad situation. we send these young men to fight for what most of us would never do, put them in harms way, constantly not knowing if the next shot you hear might be the one blowing your brains out........men react and can sometimes do horrendous things when fighting for what they believe in. read your history books. imagine what these soldiers have already seen happen to others they fight side by side with. do i condone this, no. can i understand being out of control, yes. should t.v. news be showing this. absolutely. this brings reality to this quagmire and shakes our humane side that has been in hybernation for the last 10 years. these men are fighting a war that should never have gone on this long, let alone traversed into iraq. somehow these guys gotta come back home and fit into the country that kinda forgot they were gone...........bottom line: war sucks.

GOP cannabalizing itself. very exciting to watch......go Ron Paul! he is the only GOP canidate with balls. Newt Gingrich barking about drilling for oil and natural gas saying something as the such, "an american president not having to bow to a saudi king". do you smell a rat? this year was the first year since 1949 with Truman that the #1 american export has been oil......usually it has always been aircraft. so why does every GOP canidate cry about being independent of foreign oil if we are making billions of dollars selling our oil to other countries? because that is what capitalism is based on, not taking care of yours but the bottom line monetarily. so back to my voice of, "WAKE UP AMERICA! it is not either of our major political parties but fucking big business and fucking banks". i`m tired and should really be riding my motorcycle. and can someone tell me what is unconstitutional about the healthcare bill? i`m still trying to figure it out. now kids can still be insured on their parents insurance till the age of 26 (wait till you folks with younger kids get to utilize this gift), and folks with pre-existing conditions can`t be turned away by insurance companies (you are fortunate enough to be healthy but wait till you are sick and see how hard insurance companies fuck you after you have spent a lifetime of paying their premiums). i think i woke up in a bad mood. going back to sleep....... oh yeah, Happy New Year!

our lives are so busy, events, places and people can become overshadowed by everyday commonplace. some people are easy to forget, others stay with you forever. with those who stay with you, an easy smile can come to your face.

a friend kept telling me he wanted to introduce me to someone that i would get along with, we had alot in common, this friend knowing i really don`t like many people. it just never panned out, life was in the way. well a weekend getaway turned into the introduction of a pretty cool friendship. when i was finally introduced to strummer, he immediately asked me what i was drinking as he was sitting behind the bar. vodka being my choice of poison, it was vodka i blurted out. with his proper educated english accent he apologised and said he had no vodka. not to worry, i`ll drink anything...... well that didn`t settle with joe....... two hours latter, joe shows up with a bottle of stoli.....story goes: joe walks out the front door to get me my vodka, doesn`t want to drive because he has had a few so "finds" a bicycle with the tires flat so walks it a couple miles to pump them up..... pedals to liquor store for "my" vodka, rides back, replaces the bicycle where he "found"it, then proceeds to pour me my drink and hand it to me.......we sat for hours talking and eventually babbling something or the other as the get-together started drifting away.......one of my last photographs that is imprinted in my mind is at 5:00 a.m., palm springs, 76 degrees, the buddy that introduced us sitting on the edge of the pool with his legs in the water playing his acoustic gretsch smoking a cigar with joe laying on the diving board writing lyrics and myself sitting in the middle of the two working minds throwing up profusely with my arms wrapped around a green trashcan..... between breaks of retching convulsively, i had the great fortune of seeing two geniuses in their element of creative juices oblivious of the idiot destined to mediocrity; not letting my growling noises interfer with their minds........actually, during breaks they would bring me bottles of water with the encouraging words, "keep drinking water, you will be fine", with a reassuring pat on the back....... that was the beginning of a pretty cool friendship that i never really got what i brought to the friendship.....everytime he got into town, i got a call, "Michael...........!", with that accent. i would just smile as i am right now.....thinking of you joe. i rest.

about a month ago i had myself a little trip south of the border.....surf, food, beer.....

after some waves at san miguel with all by myself, chest high.........i spied down into the bay at three M`s another solo peak......looks like localism is starting to set in. after about an hour , a group of locals started gathering at the cliffs watching me surf and i think some rocks may have been thrown.......i would have done the same thing 30 years ago.... got into downtown ensenada, when i hear someone call my name. it was Augustine Garibe, a bartender from hussong`s. he asked me where the hell i`ve been saying he thought i was dead.........i replied married with kids....oh.........he was opening the bar and wondered if i wanted some beers. " the bar will be ours for an hour, we can catch up." so as he was setting up for the day we had ourselves a little run down memory lane. fights, throwing up all over the bar, going to jail, my ability at bullsitting young touristas...... man i`m such a fuck up but he had me laughing. adios amigo, time to eat

when i first moved to aliso viejo ten years ago, i must admit, i was kinda bummed. it was like i was laying down to be slaughtered. i was used to living blocks from the beach, felt like i was still part of the pulse of my youth. wife and kids come first, so i succumbed and settled down in this new community. now i can honestly say i`m pretty stoked with the place, i`m very comfortable and settled. my family is happy, my house is nice and new, my world is good. the one thing that always seemed to un-nerve me at times was within minutes of talking with at least 40% of the parents, one of the first personal questions they usually asked was, "what church do you belong to?" i figured it was this land of young, new families starting up and thinking they should be searching for whatever their parents have been shoving down their throats for the last 20 or so years. so they were either asking to find out what place of worship i went to or they were recruiting. either way, i politely deflected the question and made a mental note to dodge them at all costs. since living here a few established religious organizations have planted their roots and have built their flocks but one in particular had caught my eye in the last few years. Compass Bible Church, opened in an industrial area not far from my house. they have been growing steadily and their facility has been getting larger and bringing the masses. one night, a neighbor that is somewhat really un-neighborly had a ton of cars parked out front of their house. weekly home bible study. men in one room, women in the other. taliban? back to my story........ two days ago, my eldest son told me this video on youtube was making all the kids at school buzz and everyone was going nuts. What? what really grabbed alot of the kids he said, is that it was filmed in parts with his high school in the background. i guess the video went viral, was closed down, then posted again under another name, then back posted again as its original name `Homosexuality in High School`. please watch this video. this kid in the video is probably gonna kill himself in the near future. or hopefully he`ll run away from this horrible church. http://youtu.be/UYkWAQIINEo please do not join this horrible club.

well, one day, i saw her kicking back on her patio and said i would swing by tonight and she said, `not tonight, my old man is coming by.` What?!... i thought to myself. `you should swing by and meet him. he surfs and rides motorcycles.` i`m thinking, `o.k.?` came by later on when i smelt her b.b.q. start up. and up comes Truc....... i`m a skinny surf rat. he kinda scared the shit outta me. don`t judge a book by it`s cover.......Truc was so fuckin cool. the bike he rode out from florida is the pahhead with the extended front end. he said our redhead said I had a bike and we went over to my house while she started cooking some food for us. he tuned up the carb and had it running perfect. we talked about music and surfing....... and after we drank a ton of beers and watched the sun go down, our redhead started picking up the plates, he leaned over and asked, `you fuckin my red?` my eyes popped out of my head and i tried to talk and he just started laughing his fuckin head off........ i` didn`t get it.... he said,` don`t worry, it`s cool, we have our own lives. she`s great, have fun kiddo.` as he was wiping the tears from his eyes, red walked in and asked what was so funny. he told her what he said to me and they both started cracking up. i sat nervously staring at them. red looked at me and said `of course i told him honey`. and they both started laughing again.

i saw Truc for another week. we went surfing, rode bikes......but the redhead was his when he was in town. i went back to my regular girlfriends. over time the redhead and i drifted apart but remained good friends. i saw her crying some time later and she said Truc was mowed over by an eighteen wheeler on his way to georgia to visit his wife and kids.
i felt so bad for her, she really dug him. he was way a rad dude, i was stoked i got to meet him. she ran into the house and came out with these photos and gave them to me. i found these in a box in the garage about three weeks ago.......i`m sharing Truc with you..........be peace.
